Karen’s educational background is Business Management and Marketing with a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo. Karen’s professional life began in sales and quickly moved to marketing products related to desk top publishing. After the birth of her first child, she returned to the work force as a marketing consultant for small business. With the birth of her second child, she put her skills to work in voluntary positions in the schools and community.
Karen’s work in the schools earned her a Jefferson Award for Public Service in Schools in 2010. Moving her attention to the community, she received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Foster City Chamber of Commerce in 2013 and named to the Community Wall of Fame in Foster City in 2016. She is active in the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Program serving as a trainer and Continuation Education Manager.
Volunteering at the Foster City Chamber of Commerce in 2010, she became an Ambassador, and then Special Events Coordinator assisting with networking programs. And, for the past 4 years, Karen has been a lead organizer for cityFEST (formerly the Arts & Wine Festival).
